about me;

While pushing the boundaries of crossing genres, vocalist Jade Etienne synthesizes the different corners of her sound through an artistic vision that is reinforced by a deep connection to her culture as a Haitian-American, both musically and spiritually. Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, she is currently based in Baltimore with a master's degree in voice from the Peabody Institute, where she studied opera and jazz. Jade uses this classical training to strengthen the instrument that was shaped by a rich gospel tradition for much of her life. Praised for an agile voice and "incredibly rich" tone, she refuses to be boxed into any one genre or style. The study of a wide range of vocal techniques helps Jade coach other singers, as well as pay homage to a heritage of Black popular and contemporary music- especially to the soul and RnB legends of the past and present that inspire her most.

An operatic mezzo soprano, Jade has most recently sung the role of Sesto in La Clemenza di Tito, Peabody Opera Theater. In 2024, she premiered the role of Hansel in the first mainstage production of Nicholas Hersch’s arrangement of Hansel and Gretel in 2024. In May of 2025, she recieved Peabody’s George Woodhead Prize in Voice.

In 2023, she was a finalist for Opera Ebony’s Benjamin Matthew’s Vocal Competition, and in previous opera scene productions, has done roles such as La Reine in Hamlet, Mallika in Lakmé, Cecilio in Lucia Silla, and Ramiro in La finta Giardiniera.
